Porsche
Design Replica Watches
The company
known as Porsche Design first began in 1972 when the legendary
Porsche firm made the decision to alter the company’s
legal form from a limited partnership to a private limited
company.
It was
at this point that F.A “Butzi” Porsche decided
to open a firm that would provide accessories to Porsche
car owners.
The first
product offered was a Chronograph wrist watch with case and
bracelet in matt black chromed steel. This was followed by
the release of other watches and products such as sun glasses,
luggage, pens, knives and smoking accessories.
The company
is actually three divisions. The first division, Porsche
Design is focused on the production of high quality men’s
accessories. Porsche Design Drivers Selection is the branch
that handles all vehicle related product and Porsche Design
Studio is involved in the design and production of consumer
products such as home appliances, desktop computers and wall
furniture as well as architecture and interior design.
Porsche
Design watches have over the years been produced by a number
of companies including Orfina and IWC. More recently they
purchased Eterna, a long time Swiss manufacturer. The purchase
of this company allows them better control over the product
and secures them as a manufacturer as well as a retailer.
Porsche
Design watches are available through Porsche Design Stores
and selected individual outlets in almost every country in
the world. They have always stood for the high quality pieces
that were innovative and have at times made use of unique
materials.
Some of their better known models include the Heritage, Dashboard and Satellite
collections.
“Butzi” Porsche
resigned from the company in 2005 for health reasons. The
company is now under the leadership of Dr. Siegmund Rudigier,
the former president of Donna Karan.
Porsche Design
Replica Watches - A Brief History
The name Porsche is well
known in the world of automobiles, however not everyone is aware that they
make a line of men’s accessories including watches. To understand the
relationship between Porsche the car manufacturer and Porsche Design one
should first consider the history of the brand.
Porsche cars were first
manufactured in 1938 by Ferry Porsche son of Ferdinand Porsche an automotive
engineer from Austria whose best known design was the Porsche 911. It was
when Ferry’s son F.A. “Butzi” joined the firm that the
groundwork was laid for the Porsche Design watches.
In the 1972 the company
decided to change its legal form from a limited partnership to a private
limited company. It was at this point that Porsche Design was born. At the
time this change occurred “Butzi” decided to form his own design
company. The company objective was to produce goods and products that were
compatible with the Porsche legend.
The first watch, a chronograph
was produced by Orfina, a Swiss watch manufacturer. Launched in 1973 it was
different from other chronographs of the day as its case and bracelet were
made from matt black chromed steel. The movement of the watch was the well
known and widely used Valjoux 7750 movement which is still used by many manufacturers
to this day. The model was intended as accessory for Porsche drivers and
was sold through Porsche dealers.
In 1978 the company teamed
with IWC to develop an automatic watch with a non-magnetic movement and a
compass. This timepiece featured a movement that was housed in a hinge attached
upper case. This upper case could be flapped to allow the wearer to view
the compass in the lower part of the case.
In a 1980 collaboration
Porsche Design and IWC produced the Titan Chronograph, the first wristwatch
to use titanium.
In 1995 Porsche Design
acquired Eterna SA, a watch manufacturer who had been in business since 1856.
This well known company was the manufacturer of the ETA movement. Since then
production of Porsche Design watches has continued and according to all reports
is doing well.
“Butzi” retired
from the company in 2005 due to his health however the company he created
lives on.
