Oris Replica Watches

Oris Watch Company has produced many fine time pieces over the years. Initially established in 1904 the company released its first model in 1906. The company has been through turbulent times as well as prosperous ones. It is also the recipient of many awards throughout the years it has been in business.

The company is located in Holstien, Switzerland and is officially known as Oris SA with the SA standing for Societe Anonyme which is French for Limited Company.

The firm initially began as a partnership between two men Paul Cattin and Georges Christian and remained as such until 1927 when Christian passed away. Shortly after his passing the company became a public company. It was also at this time that Oscar Herzog, brother in law of Christian became CEO of the company.

Under Herzop’s leadership the company flourished releasing a number of new watches and movements. Unable to produce watches with a lever escapements due to a Swiss Statute that was enacted to protect the interests of a monopoly of a limited number of manufacturers Oris worked diligently to refine its pinlever watches. So admirably did they succeed in this that they were awarded over 200 certificates with the classification “with distinction” from Bureau Officiel de Controle de la Marche de Montre at Le Locle. Their movements became so refined that they came to be virtually equal in precision as the genuine lever watches of that time.

Over the ensuing years many other significant watches and movements were developed. In 1952 they released their first automatic movement with a power reserve display; they developed and produced the world famous cal. 645; and the movement 652 was officially awarded full chronometer certification from the Observatory in Neuchatel in 1968.

In 1970 majority interest in the company was sold to ASUAG holding, the group that eventually became The Swatch Group. Unfortunately ASUAG felt that Oris watches were a producer of inexpensive watches, a move that dismayed many in the company. In 1982 a management buyout of the company was arranged and the company once again became independent.

While the company, like many others, suffered setbacks during the quartz revolution Oris did emerge from the crisis with the production of its Pointer Calendar watch in 1984. Since that time the company has gone on to rebuild itself and produce an amazing array of time pieces in a relatively short period of time.

Oris Replica Watches - A Brief History

The Oris watch company now has more than 100 years of history behind it. First established in 1904 the company was founded by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian at Holstein a town in the German speaking area of Switzerland. Both men had come from the watch making capital Le Locle in the Jurassic region.

They initially purchased the defunct factory of Lohner & Co and beginning with just 24 workmen began production on the first of many notable Oris time pieces to come. By 1906 they had established themselves in the area and by 1910 the Holstein location employed over 300 employees making it the largest employer in the region.

By 1925 the company had established its own electroplating factory and was becoming well known as a manufacturer of relatively inexpensive but good quality watches. It was also during this time frame that Oris began fitting bracelet buckles to their pocket watches thus making them adaptable to be worn as wristwatches. These watches with pinlever movements found ready markets in England, the English colonies and eventually South America.

In 1927 Georges Christian passed away and shortly thereafter Oris became a public company. The brother in law of Georges, Oscar Herzog became CEO of the company and remained in that position for the next 43 years leading the company through many years of new innovation and constant growth.

Over that time the company saw many advances. It refined its pinlever movement to the degree that it was virtually equal to the precision of a lever watch, as due to the Swiss limitation on the number of manufacturers in order to protect the monopoly of other manufacturers. So significant was this refinement that they were awarded certificates with the classification “with distinction” by Bureau Officiel de Controle de la Marche de Montre at Le Locle between the years 1945 to 1953. By the 1960’s the company was one of the ten largest watch producers in Switzerland

In 1968 the company was awarded full chronometer certification by the Observatory in Neuchatel and by 1970 the they released their first chronograph known as the Chronoris. The Chronoris Collection remains a part of their line of watches to this day.

Other notable collections include the Frank Sinatra, the Artelier, the Flight Timer and the Williams F1 Team.
